Sanctuary Yoga at Unity Spiritual Center

A Spiritual & Somatic Practice of Movement, Stillness & Connection

Move with awareness. Listen from within. Honor your body. Connect with Spirit.

Sanctuary Yoga is an invitation to slow down, turn inward, and reconnect with the wisdom of your body and Spirit.

Offered by Yoga Michelle in the peaceful Sanctuary at Unity Spiritual Center near The Villages in Fruitland Park, this gentle practice weaves together somatic movement, yoga, breath, meditation, stillness, and spiritual reflection to nurture the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.

You don’t need to be flexible. You don’t need to know the poses. And you don’t need to make your body look like anyone else’s.

You simply come as you are.

Your Body, Your Practice.

Sanctuary Yoga isn’t about achieving the perfect pose, pushing through discomfort, or keeping up with the person on the mat beside you.

We begin by listening.

Through slow, conscious movement and somatic awareness, you are invited to notice what you feel, become curious about how your body moves, and discover what your body needs in the present moment.

Rather than asking your body to conform to yoga, we explore ways for yoga to meet your body where it is.

Some days that may mean moving more. Other days it may mean moving less.

A familiar yoga pose may look different in your body than it does in someone else’s—and that’s exactly as it should be.

The practice becomes less about doing yoga correctly and more about developing awareness, choice, self-trust, and a deeper relationship with your own body.

Where Somatic Awareness Meets Yoga

Somatic simply means “of the body.”

In Sanctuary Yoga, we use gentle somatic movement to slow things down enough to actually feel what is happening within us.

Instead of automatically moving into a posture because we have been told where our arms, legs, or feet are supposed to go, we pause. We notice. We breathe. We explore.

From that awareness, we begin bringing somatic principles into familiar yoga poses—discovering how subtle changes can create more ease, freedom, stability, and connection.

There is no one “right” expression of a pose.

The pose serves the body.

the body does not serve the pose.

Over time, this way of practicing can help you move beyond simply following a yoga teacher and begin creating a yoga practice that honors your body, your needs, and your experience.

Creating Stillness Within

Yoga is more than physical movement.

As the body begins to settle and habitual tension softens, the mind often becomes quieter too.

Breath, meditation, spiritual reflection, and moments of stillness are gently woven into the practice, creating space to move beyond habitual thoughts and reactions and become more present to what is happening within.

In that stillness, we have an opportunity to listen more deeply—to our bodies, to our inner wisdom, and to the Divine presence within.

Rather than looking outside ourselves for all the answers, yoga becomes a practice of turning inward.

A practice of awareness.

A practice of conscious choice.

A practice of connection.

A Sanctuary Within a Sanctuary

There is something especially meaningful about practicing yoga in a space dedicated to spiritual connection.

Unity Spiritual Center near The Villages is a loving, inclusive spiritual community that honors the individual’s spiritual journey and offers practical spiritual tools to deepen connection with the Divine.

Sanctuary Yoga is offered in that same welcoming spirit.

You do not need to be a member of Unity or follow a particular faith tradition. You do not need previous yoga or meditation experience.

This is a space to explore your own connection between body, mind, and Spirit in a way that feels authentic to you.

Together, we create a sanctuary within the Sanctuary—a place to step away from the busyness of everyday life, come home to your body, quiet the mind, and reconnect with something deeper.
